COLLECTIBLE BOOK VAULT

The Press has printed various broadsides for the Collectible Book Vault ('CBV'), a forum and resource started in late 2021 in the USA, primarily for collectors of contemporary limited and private press works. These broadsides are all of the same size and general layout, and are published in limited numbers as gifts to supporters of the CBV, usually chosen at random. They are in most cases specifically designated as "not for sale" as a result of the copyright licenses agreed for their production.

J.R.R. TOLKEIN

Printed in a limited edition of 8 copies, hand-set in 30pt Romulus (and 14pt Haarlemmer for the colophon on the reverse), on white Fabriano Tiepolo 290gsm paper (100% cotton, mould-made with a C[artiere] M[iliani] F[abriano] watermark surmounted by a star and enclosed in a circle), this quote from The Fellowship of the Ring (1954) was reprinted by kind permission of HarperCollins Publishers Ltd, who hold the copyright to the published works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The quote is also known as The Riddle of Strider, a poem by the character Bilbo Baggins. The image of the inscription from the One Ring ("One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them"), in Black Speech (the language of Mordor) and Tengwar script with Feanorian characters (from the Elven language), was impressed via hot foiling in gold on a John T. Marshall hot foil press.
