The Press has printed on commission the following bookplates.

EX LIBRIS SIMON WILSON

 

Bookplate for Simon Casimir Wilson OBE (awarded 1997): author (Holbein to Hockney: A History of British Art (1979), Egon Schiele (1980), The Tate Guide to Modern Art Terms (2008), amongst others), publisher (Sign of Nine Press) and former curator/ Head of Interpretation at Tate Britain (1967 – 2002).

 

The design taken from a pen drawing by Susan Groom in 1964 (image size 157mm(h) x 116mm(w)), inspired by Aubrey Beardsley, the figures within the image representing Simon Wilson and Susan Groom. A line block was done some years ago (now lost) by another printer at a smaller size (image size 101mm(h) x 75mm(w)), from which a set of bookplates were printed.

 

For this edition of circa 250 copies, the image was redrawn by Mark Askam (image size 110mm(h)) and a polymer plate prepared by Centurion Graphics. The plate printed on an Arab Press on Sunome Senaka 52gsm Japanese paper.

EX LIBRIS SAMUEL WEST

 

Bookplate for BAFTA nominated Film, TV, Stage and Radio actor Samuel Alexander Jospeh West (credits include: Howards End (1992), Van Helsing (2004) and Notting Hill (1999)). 

 

The design taken from a pen drawing commissioned for this bookplate, by illustrator and writer Phillida Gili. Phillida studied at St Martin’s School of Art, and is well known as a children’s book illustrator; as well as publishing under her own imprint, Warren Editions. She is the daughter of wood-engraver, designer and typographer Reynolds Stone CBE and photographer Janet Stone.

 

For the edition of circa 1,000 large and 200 small copies, the image was redrawn by Mark Askam and polymer plates prepared by Lyme Bay Press (plate sizes 71mm(h) x 66mm(w), and 50mm(h) x 48mm(w)). The plates printed on an Albion Press on Sunome Senaka 52gsm Japanese paper.
