The Press was overjoyed to win a Fine Press Book Association Collector's Prize Honorable Mention Award at the Manhattan Fine Press Fair on 29th April 2023.

EDITION PRINTED FOR THE CORDES PRESS

 

The Press was pleased to be commissioned to print again for the Cordes Press, printing its second illustrated title in early 2023, entitled The Vampire Cat of Nabeshima. More details are available on the Cordes Press website.

The Press exhibited at the Oxford Fine Press Fair in March 2022.

NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR ILLUSTRATION CHOSEN FOR SWE EXHIBITION

 

The Press was very pleased that Robin MacKenzie's Golden Country, commissioned for the Press's edition of Orwell's 1984, was chosen to be exhibited at the 84th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Wood Engravers in early 2022.

EDITION PRINTED FOR THE CHESTNUT PRESS

 

The Press had the pleasure of printing another title from the Chestnut Press, entitled Idyll, printed on dampened hand-made Batchelor 'Lecturn Bible' paper, with covers in Barcham Green Turner Grey hand-made paper.

EDITION PRINTED FOR THE CORDES PRESS

 

The Press was privileged to print the first title from the Cordes Press, entitled Lust Poem, with a three-colour woodcut. More details are available on the Cordes Press website.

THE FOLIO SOCIETY AND THE 'AURORA AUSTRALIS'

 

To accompany the recent release of the Folio Society’s facsimile of Aurora Australis - the book at the heart of the St James Park Press’ An Albion in the Antarctic - an accompanying booklet and essay was produced, entitled Printed at the Sign of the Penguins. Kindly referenced in the essay was the author’s note, ‘I also learned from something wonderful, the recent private press monograph… An Albion in the Antarctic’.

A TRIBUTE TO JOHN RANDLE (2021)

 

Ode to an Old Face’, a short poem printed on the Albion Press on Barcham Green’s Crisbrook yellow paper, in a limited number, for presentation to John Randle of the Whittington Press as a tribute to his work. It was an honour to be invited to contribute to a collaboration with other selected printers.

OXFORD GUILD OF PRINTERS MEMBERS LIST 2021/22

 

Printed on the Arab Press in four colour runs, a Mondrian Typecase was produced in a limited number of ‘registered’ copies as a small broadside, as well as for use in an ‘un-registered’ form - along with printed text in light grey - as folded covers for the new Oxford Guild of Printers Members List.

WOOD-ENGRAVING FOR MILTON'S COTTAGE

 

Early original wood-engraving of Milton's Cottage, printed from the original block. Printed in November 2020 on an Albion Press, on white Japanese paper, tipped into a Canson Mi-Teintes folder printed in red and black Bold Script wood type, and a colophon in founders 12pt Koch Antiqua. The edition is limited to only: 16 copies for Milton's Cottage and 25 copies retained by the Press (275 x 187.5mm).

EPHEMERA FOR THE CHESTNUT PRESS

Thaw, by Edward Thomas. Printed in 2019 on an Albion Press, handset in 22pt Dante Italic type, in black and silver ink, on three paper stocks (115 x 160mm). The edition is limited to only: 8 copies on Irish Hand Made paper from the Salvage Press, 32 copies on white Kozo Cho Junpaku from Sennelier (Paris), and 43 copies on Zerkall paper from John Purcell.

Printed in 2019, for the Bodleian Library, on an Arab Press, in Albertus type, in blue and grey ink, on Somerset paper from St Cuthbert's Mill (320 x 420mm). Featuring a line-block illustration by Garrick Palmer. The edition is limited to 35 copies.

A poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 – 1928), first published in 1922.

 

Printed for the Chestnut Press in October 2017 on an Albion Press, in the first letterpress use of Romanée MA Open, roman and italic, Mark Askam’s digital rework of Jan van Krimpen’s Romanée, in pale blue-grey and black ink, on cream Bunkoshi Japanese handmade paper (125 x 85mm). Featuring a digitally drawn silhouette of a Fallow Deer stag by Askam. Bound in a pale blue-grey handmade paper cover made by Twelve by Eight Press. (4pp).

 

The edition was limited to 30 copies only (Special Edition numbered i-vi, printed with silver ink, and the Ordinary Edition numbered 1-24).

SHAKESPEARE'S SONNET FOR THE BODLEIAN 

Printed in 2016, for the Bodleian Library in Oxford, on an Albion Press from 1827 at the Historical Print Room at Cambridge University Library, in 18pt Golden Cockerel type, and 12pt Joanna, cast at the Whittington Press, both designed by Gill, in blue and black ink, on watermarked ‘Holland’ 130gsm thin Imitation Japanese vellum from T.N. Lawrence (313 x 479mm). Featuring a line-block illustration by Lettice Sandford. In the library's collection shelfmark Rec.a.36.

Imprimit, in 24pt Abbey Text, gifted in part from the Quarto Press, and 16pt Centaur, cast at the Whittington Press, on dampened 170gsm Zerkall paper (146 x 208mm). Featuring a linocut by Mark Arman in celebration of his Workshop Press. The edition was limited to 200 copies only (numbers 81-200 for the Oxford Guild of Printers ephemeral exchange).
